Best Surf Season (July - September)

The summer months deliver the most consistent and powerful conditions at La Saladita. As the North Pacific heats up, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) shifts north, driving a steady stream of long-period SSW and S swells that wrap into this west-facing point. The average swell height climbs above 1.5m through August and peaks at 1.7m in September, with wave periods often exceeding 13 seconds. Simultaneously, the wind machine flips in your favor: ideal offshore breezes from NO/ONO/O/OSO (NW/WNW/W/WSW) dominate nearly half the time, grooming the waves into clean, rippable walls. This is the sweet spot for quality surf at La Saladita.

Fair Surf Season (October - February)

As autumn deepens and winter sets in, the swell window remains active but the character shifts. The average swell height drops to 1.2-1.3m in December and January, though the wave period stays long and punchy (13.4-13.5s). Swell directions rotate slightly toward SW and WSW, still squarely in the optimal zone. The percentage of ideal wind dips slightly from the summer peak but still runs between 38-47%, offering plenty of clean sessions between cold fronts. This is a solid, reliable season for intermediate to advanced surfers who can handle the occasional onshore push from winter storms.

Low Surf Season (March - June)

Spring transitions bring a notable reduction in favorable wind conditions. From March through May, the ideal wind percentage plummets to between 20-27%, with frequent afternoon onshore breezes (especially from SW and WSW) that chop up the wave faces. Swell size remains respectable, averaging 1.3-1.5m, and the period holds strong (13.7-14.2s), but the lack of clean, groomed conditions makes it a session for the dedicated. June sees a modest recovery in wind quality (40% ideal) as the summer pattern begins to establish, marking the start of the transition into the best season.

April: The Spring Wind Struggle

April remains in the low season with ideal wind percentages bottoming out at 20%. Despite an average swell height of 1.4m and a solid 14.1s period, the quality takes a major hit from persistent onshore winds. The swell direction shifts even more southerly: a whopping 54.4% now comes from SSW, with 40.2% from SW. This is a great swell mix for the point, but without clean wind, it’s difficult to enjoy. The strongest wind signals are from the SW and WSW quadrants (>30% combined), so expect bumpy, sectiony waves. A few lucky days with NO wind can be absolute gold, but they are rare.
