Lennox Head seasonal overview

Lennox Head is a consistent surf spot with year-round waves, but the best conditions for surfers typically occur between April and August. During these months, ground swell frequency increases (peaking at 32% in July), reducing reliance on wind swells, which are less powerful and organized. The mean swell size remains steady around 1.5m-1.6m, providing a good balance of size and rideability. Wind conditions also improve significantly in this period, with good winds (offshore or light cross-shore) occurring 29-39% of the time—highest from May to July—while bad winds (onshore or strong cross-shore) drop to their lowest levels (61-71%). Outside this window, particularly from November to February, surf quality declines as wind swells dominate (81-86%) and good wind days become scarce (15-18%). Swell size slightly diminishes in late spring and summer (1.4m-1.5m), further limiting ideal surfing opportunities. For the most reliable, cleanest waves with solid ground swell and favorable winds, mid-autumn to late winter (April-August) is the prime window at Lennox Head.
