This generates a consistent supply of W, WNW, and NW swell that wraps directly into Loekken's northwest-facing beaches. Average wave heights hover between 1.0m and 1.3m, with periods regularly stretching into the 6-9s range, offering punchy, rideable waves. Offshore winds from E, ESE, SE, and SSE occur 22-29% of the time, often in the wake of passing cold fronts when high pressure builds from the east. The combination of solid groundswell and clean conditions can produce truly firing sessions, especially when the NAO index tilts negative, steering storms closer to Scandinavia.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These shoulder months mark a transition. April sees the jet stream begin to retreat northwards, reducing storm activity, while September catches the first whispers of autumn's return. Low Surf Season (May - August)

Swell heights average just 0.7-0.8m, with periods languishing below 5.5s, resulting in mostly small, weak, and often choppy conditions. The dominant swell direction remains W, but the energy is low. More problematic, the prevailing westerly wind regime (W, WNW, NW) is directly onshore for Loekken, ruining wave shape. Ideal offshore wind from the east occurs only 10-13% of the time, usually during brief high-pressure setups. While the rare summer storm can provide a bump, expect mostly micro surf best left for groveling or a flat spell. This is the season to travel or take up another sport.
