The trade-off is the persistent northeast wind that blows onshore most days, limiting clean conditions to occasional cold front passages or tropical disturbances that swing the breeze southerly. Dedicated loggers and fish riders will find plenty of enjoyment, but those seeking heavy, firing surf should look elsewhere during these months.

November: Building Swell, Wind Becomes Tricky

November marks the ramp-up to winter. Average wave height reaches 1.0m with a 9.8-second period, providing solid, punchy surf. Swell is predominantly ENE (50.2%) and NE (40.1%), with some NNE (5.7%) and NNW (1.1%) influence. The wind, however, becomes increasingly northeasterly (NE 13.3%, ENE 18.8%, E 15.9%), reducing ideal offshore conditions to 15% of the time. Despite the onshore tendency, the swell energy is strong. Look for days with a southerly wind shift after a front – those are the magic windows for clean, firing waves.
