Average wave heights hover between 2.4m and 2.7m, with periods often exceeding 12 seconds – prime conditions for Moledo's west-facing setup. The dominant swell direction is from the NW and WNW, wrapping nicely into the beach. Crucially, the percentage of ideal offshore winds (from the west quadrant) peaks at 49-56%, meaning more sessions with clean, groomed faces. A negative NAO phase often correlates with this active storm track, delivering pumping surf that attracts local and traveling surfers alike.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These transitional months mark a noticeable shift. In April, average swell drops to 2.1m with a period of 11s, while September sees 1.6m and 10.5s. The swell mix includes more background NW windswell, but long-period groundswell still sneaks in from distant lows. Wind becomes slightly less reliable – ideal only 38% of the time in April and 41% in September – with a higher tendency for morning offshores followed by afternoon seabreezes. It's a shoulder season that rewards those who watch the charts and pick their days wisely.

Low Surf Season (May - August)

Summer settles in with a dramatic drop in average swell height (1.4-1.7m) and period (8.7-9.9s). The predominant swell is short-period NW windswell generated by persistent northerly winds. Ideal offshore winds become scarce, occurring only 24-32% of the time, as thermal gradients drive strong northwesterly onshores. Conditions are often bumpy and weak, but early mornings can deliver brief windows of clean, fun-size waves for a longboard or fish. This is the time to explore cobblestone points or plan a trip to the Southern Hemisphere.

December: Depth Charge Swells

The year closes with a bang: averages of 2.6m and 12.6s. NW (17.3%) and WNW (16.1%) are the primary swell directions, with a healthy W contribution (7.0%). Ideal wind peaks at 56% – the highest of the year – thanks to frequent high pressure over Europe that pumps out easterly winds.
