Pasta Point seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (April & November)
Pasta Point hits its stride during the transitional months of April and November, when the convergence of reliable offshore winds and quality swell creates the most consistent surf. April marks the tail end of the northeast monsoon, bringing lighter winds from the N to NW quadrant—offshore for this SE-facing reef—and a steady diet of S to SSW swell that wraps cleanly into the point. Average wave periods climb to 8.2s, lending punch to the 0.8m average height. November sees the southwest monsoon yielding, with winds shifting back to the NW and WNW over 50% of the time, while swell from the S through WSW dominates the charts. This month offers a rare combination of powerful, long-period groundswell (periods often 7-10s) and glassy mornings. When the planets align, both months deliver fun, rippable waves in the 1-1.5m range, with occasional pumping sets pushing 2m. It’s the sweet spot of the year.
Fair Surf Season (March, May, July–October)
These months offer a mixed bag for the dedicated Pasta Point surfer. March and May see transition: March has ideal wind 54% of the time, but swell is largely from the E and ESE—directions that struggle to wrap into the point, leaving small, grovelly waves. May brings better swell from the SW and WSW (over 40% combined), but wind consistency drops to 37% ideal, with strong WSW and W winds often ruining the surface. July through October is the heart of the southwest monsoon, when consistent S to W swell rolls in—averaging 1.0-1.2m with periods of 8-9s—but the wind is predominantly from the W and WSW, creating lumpy, onshore conditions. However, during breaks in the monsoon pattern, a strong NW or N wind can utterly transform the lineup, offering smooth, powerful waves. Patience and a keen eye on the forecast are key; when it fires, it’s worth the wait.
Low Surf Season (January, February, June, December)
These months are the least reliable for quality surf at Pasta Point. January, February, and December are dominated by ENE and E swell—up to 71% of the total in January—which is largely shadowed by the Maldives’ atolls and arrives with short, weak periods averaging 6.7-6.9s. The wind is overwhelmingly from the NE and ENE (onshore), resulting in choppy, messy waves below 1m. Ideal surfing conditions drop to 28-40%, and the rare offshore day from the N or NW is often accompanied by flat spells. June is a different kind of low: swell from the SW and WSW is abundant (over 50% combined) and average heights reach 1.2m with 8.2s periods—solid by any standard—but the wind is ideal only 30% of the time. Persistent W and WSW winds (over 60% combined) create bumpy, difficult conditions. When the wind does clock around to the NW, the waves can be epic, but those windows are fleeting. If you’re planning a trip, aim for the shoulder seasons.

Conditions at Pasta Point in February
February: Slightly Brighter, Still Subpar
February offers a modest improvement over January, with ideal wind percentages rising to 40% and the dominant swell shifting slightly eastward. ENE swell still makes up 53% of the total, with another 20% from the E, keeping wave heights moderate at 0.9m and periods short at 6.7s. The wind remains predominantly from the NE (33%) and ENE (28.1%), though lighter breezes allow more windows for clean conditions. The swell direction, however, is still unfavorable—waves from the ENE and E are heavily shadowed by nearby islands and reefs, wrapping in with little energy. When a N or NW wind sets in (about 6% of the time combined), the occasional fun-sized 0.5-1m wave can appear, but consistency is lacking. February is a transitional month, teasing better things to come.
