Best Surf Season (April - November)

This is when Punta Miramar truly comes alive. From April through November, the Pacific basin fires up, sending consistent, long-period SSW and SW swell marching toward this west-southwest-facing beach. The average wave height sits comfortably in the fun to good range (1-1.5m), and the period often stretches into the powerful 10-14s bracket, providing punchy, rippable waves. At the same time, the trade winds clock in reliably from the ENE and E, blowing clean offshore over 60% of the time on average. This combination of quality groundswell and glassy morning conditions makes for some of the most consistent and user-friendly surf of the year.

Fair Surf Season (December - March)

While the swell window still delivers occasional pulses, the winter months see a shift in the dominant swell direction toward more southerly angles that wrap in with less consistency. The average wave height drops slightly to the small to fun-sized range (0.5-1.5m), and periods remain respectable in the 12-13s zone, offering rideable waves but fewer standout days. Winds are a mixed bag: offshore flows from the ENE remain common, but the percentage of ideal wind dips into the 40-50% range, and light onshore breezes from the SW can creep in during the afternoon. It’s a solid shoulder season for those looking to score without the crowds.

Low Surf Season (None)

Thanks to its year-round exposure to the Southern Hemisphere swell window and persistent trade-wind pattern, Punta Miramar never truly goes flat. Even during the climatological minima, there’s always something to ride. The low season is essentially non-existent—instead, the focus is on picking the right month for your skill level and tolerance for offshore wind consistency.

July: High Summer, High Performance

July sees a slight shift in swell makeup, with 56.9% from the SSW and a notable 32.8% from the S. Waves average 1.3m and 13.7s, producing solid, shapeable sets. The offshore wind reliability peaks at 74% ideal—the highest of the year. The ENE and E trades blow consistently at 10-30kph, keeping the ocean smooth and the waves clean. Despite the summer season, the surf doesn't let up. Expect hollow walls on the peakier SSW swell and longer, rippable lines from more southerly angles. Excellent for intermediate and advanced surfers alike.
