Best Surf Season (October - March)

The North Atlantic winter storms deliver their full fury to the Norwegian coast during these months, and Reve Havn reaps the rewards. Average swell heights range from 1.2m to 1.6m with periods between 7.5s and 8.5s, meaning plenty of punchy to powerful waves peeling off the Nord-West facing beach. The dominant swell directions—W, WNW, and NW—are directly on the spot's sweet spot, generating consistent, rideable lines. Offshore winds from SSE, SE, and ESE blow clean 11-15% of the time, creating crisp conditions when they align. This is the window for the best surf: solid, rippable waves with enough punch to light up your session during the darkest months.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

These transitional months see a shift in the North Atlantic mood. April still offers occasional NW swell averaging 0.9m at 7.5s, but the frequency of clean offshore wind drops to 13%. September brings a return of autumn energy with average 1.0m swell and 7.1s period, and 10% ideal wind. Swell from the NW-WNW quadrant remains common, though wave heights are smaller and less consistent. You'll find fun, groveling conditions on the better days, but expect a mix of clean windows and messy, wind-affected periods.

Low Surf Season (May - August)

The summer doldrums settle in hard from May through August. Average swell heights bottom out at 0.7-0.8m with periods barely reaching 6.0-6.8s—offering mostly weak, choppy waves. The predominant swell from NW is still present in the direction charts (20-30% of all swell), but nearly all of it falls into the <0.5m to 1m range. More critically, the onshore winds from N, NNW, and NW dominate, ruining any potential as a close-textured mess. Ideal offshore wind (from SSE-SE) occurs only 8-9% of the time. This is a time to chase other activities unless you're keen on log surfing or a flat, glassy morning with a rare long-period groundswell.

August: Glimmer of Hope

August remains summer-level small with average swell 0.8m and period 6.3s, but we start to see a subtle uptick in energy. NW (20.5%) and WNW (15.3%) swell still dominate, with a few more waves in the 1-1.5m range (4.0% and 1.9% respectively) compared to July. The wind remains problematic: onshore NNW (20.3%) and NW (11.6%) are prevalent, but the ideal wind percentage stays at 8%. The longer evenings and occasional late-summer groundswell from a distant North Atlantic low can produce a fun, clean session if the wind clocked around to SSE or S. It's still a gamble, but the odds slowly improve as the month progresses.
