Revolcadero hits its stride during the six months from October through March, when the North Pacific’s winter storm track fuels a steady stream of long‑period SSW and SW groundswells. High‑pressure systems anchored over the southwestern United States and northern Mexico funnel cool, offshore winds from the N, NNE, NE, and NNW quadrants more than 55% of the time, grooming the waves to perfection. Swell heights average 0.9–1.3 m with periods consistently in the 13–14 s range, delivering punchy, lined‑up walls that are both rippable and powerful. This is the prime window for scoring classic Revolcadero.

Fair Surf Season (April & September)

April and September are transition months that offer a blend of reliable swell and slightly less consistent winds. In April, the average swell height climbs to 1.2 m and the period peaks at 14.1 s, often from a very focused SSW band. However, the ideal‑wind window drops to 48%, as the Trade Wind influence begins to strengthen and WSW‑W winds become more frequent. September sees a similar mix: solid 1.4 m swells with 13.2 s periods, but the wind is ideal only 48% of the time. Still, when the synoptic setup lines up – a low pressure off Baja California and a weak high over the mainland – the conditions can rival the best of winter.

Low Surf Season (May – August)

From May through August, the North Pacific storm track quiets and the Mexican coast falls under the influence of the Easterly Trades and the developing Central American Gyre. Ideal offshore winds from the north become scarce, dropping to 40–49% of the time. Instead, onshore flow from SSW‑WSW dominates, often degrading wave quality. Even though average swell heights remain respectable at 1.3–1.4 m with long periods of 13.6–14.2 s, the wind tends to chop up the faces, making it a gamble. Early mornings can still produce good sessions before the onshore kicks in, and occasional tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific can deliver brief, excellent swells with clean conditions. But consistency takes a hit during these months.

August: Consistent Summer Swell, Similar Wind Patterns

August mirrors July closely in terms of swell and wind. Average height is 1.3 m, period 13.4 s. Swell directions: SSW 74.5%, S 20.2%, and a small contribution from SW (4.7%). The 1–1.5 m range holds 52% of the waves, with 17.1% in the 1.5–2 m range – plenty of push for a fun session. Wind is ideal 49% of the time. The wind rose shows a slight increase in E‑ESE winds (E 9.7%, ESE 7.4%) compared to July, which can introduce some cross‑shore chop. Still, the classic early‑morning offshore window from the north remains, and the occasional hurricane swell from the south or southwest can create the best waves of the entire summer.
