Best Surf Season (October - March)

The North Atlantic winter machine fires on all cylinders from October through March, delivering the largest and most consistent swell window for Right Point. Average wave heights hover between 1.4m and 1.7m with periods routinely reaching 8.3 to 8.7 seconds, often pushing into the powerful long period territory. The prevailing low-pressure systems spinning off the coast generate ample ESE through SE swell that wraps directly into the point. Meanwhile, the dominant high-pressure ridge over the interior funnels frequent offshore WNW to NW winds, keeping the wave face clean and groomed. This is prime time—when the combination of size, period, and offshore flow aligns, Right Point transforms into a rippable, sometimes pumping, left-hander.

Fair Surf Season (April - May & September)

Spring and early autumn serve as transition periods. In April and May, the swell trains begin to weaken—averaging 1.2-1.4m with periods dropping into the 7.7-8.4s range—but offshore wind days remain decent, especially from the W and WNW. September sees a resurgence as autumn storms start to stir the North Atlantic; average heights climb back to 1.2m and periods stretch to 8.5s. While the waves are less consistent and often smaller, the window of clean conditions can still produce fun, groveling sessions when a modest groundswell coincides with a westerly breeze.

Low Surf Season (June - August)

Summer brings the highest percentage of ideal offshore winds (47-59% of the time, predominantly from SW to W), but at the expense of swell. Average wave heights drop to a meager 1.0-1.1m and periods shorten to 7.2-7.7s. The dominant swell directions shift strongly toward S and SSW, which are less favorable for Right Point. While the wind may be glassy, the waves rarely exceed knee‑ to waist‑high, making it a small, fun-sized period best suited for longboards or grovelers. Occasional pulses from tropical systems can break the monotony, but overall, summer is a waiting game for serious surfers.

July: Peak Summer, Minimal Waves

July is the nadir of swell for Right Point. Average height bottoms out at 1.0m and period at 7.2s. The swell direction is overwhelmingly S (34.7%) and SSW (36.6%) – almost no energy from the favorable east quadrants. The wind ideal percentage jumps to 57% due to predominant SW (20.5%) and SSW (19.6) flows that create light offshore conditions. But without any real swell, those clean days are mostly flat. The few ripples that do arrive rarely exceed 1m, making it a micro to groveling month. Occasional distant hurricane swells can bring a few days of 1.5-2m waves with longer periods, but they are the exception. Summer surfers learn to appreciate the small stuff.
