Best Surf Season (November - February)

Seccheto's best shot at rideable waves comes during the deep winter months when the Mediterranean kicks into gear. Average swell heights hover around 0.9-1.0m with periods stretching to 5.0-5.2s, offering the most consistent energy from the south quadrant (S, SSW, SW). However, the spot's south-facing orientation is a double-edged sword: the same low-pressure systems that generate southerly swell often drag onshore winds from the south and southeast, limiting the 'good wave' window to a meager 10% of the time. When a strong high-pressure ridge settles over northern Italy, the Mistral or northerly winds blow offshore, grooming southerly groundswell into clean, punchy lines. These are the unicorn days—rare but rewarding.

Fair Surf Season (March & October)

The shoulder months of March and October see a slight drop in average swell height (0.7-0.8m) and period (4.8-5.0s) compared to winter. The dominant swell direction remains south, but the wind patterns become more transitional and less reliable. In March, the increase in SSE swell (15.6% of total) often arrives with southerly winds, while October sees a rise in S and SSE swell (20.9% combined) but also a jump in onshore SSE winds (15.1%). The 'ideal wind' percentage ticks down to 9%, meaning the odds of scoring a clean session diminish. Still, passing cold fronts can deliver brief windows of northwesterly offshore flow that make the most of a small, crumbly wave.

Low Surf Season (April - September)

From late spring through early autumn, Seccheto enters a prolonged slump. Average swell heights drop to a paltry 0.4-0.7m and periods shorten to 3.9-4.9s, resulting in mostly choppy, weak conditions. The Tyrrhenian Sea becomes a wind-driven wave factory: dominant swell is from the SSE (up to 21% in April) but the accompanying SSE winds blow directly onshore, ruining any semblance of shape. Thermal seabreezes add to the chop during summer afternoons. The 'ideal wind' percentage falls to 7-8%, and even when a rare southwesterly swell sneaks in, it's almost always wind-blasted from the same direction. These months are best suited for a towel and a book—or exploring other breaks around the island.

September: Faint Signs of Life

September sees a slight uptick: average swell climbs to 0.6m, period to 4.3s, and ideal wind to 9%. SSE swell (16.3%) and S swell (9.6%) begin to return as autumn storms start stirring the Mediterranean. However, wind patterns are still transitional: SSE winds (13.2%) and NNW winds (13.0%) are in near balance, but the southerly winds often bring the swell and ruin it simultaneously. The good news is that occasional NW offshore flow (combined NW+NNW ~20%) can clean up the smaller southerly swell. Expect inconsistent, weak waves that need a high tide and a good wind angle to offer any sort of ride. September is the shoulder season where hope flickers but isn't yet reliable.
