Best Surf Season (November - March)

The North Atlantic winter machine dominates this period, with the Azores High retreating and allowing deep low-pressure systems to barrel across the Atlantic. Sidi Bouzid reaps the rewards as consistent long-period groundswells from the NW and NNW light up the beach. Combined with an elevated occurrence of offshore winds from the east and southeast (E, ESE, SE, SSE), surf quality hits its peak. December and January deliver the most reliable combination of size (averaging 2.0m) and period (13+ seconds), while November and February maintain excellent power. March is a transition month; the swell remains solid, but the offshore wind window narrows slightly. Still, this is the prime window for charging Sidi Bouzid at its finest.

Fair Surf Season (October & April)

These shoulder months are marked by increasing or decreasing storm activity. October sees the first strong autumn swells arrive, with average heights of 1.6m and periods around 11.6s, though the wind is ideal only about 35% of the time. Occasional high-pressure setups can deliver glassy offshore days. April, on the other hand, is the fading tail of winter. Swell is still respectable (1.6m), but the strengthening sun and thermal gradients cause more onshore flow, dropping the ideal wind window to just 20%. Fun-sized waves are common, but the quality is less consistent than in the heart of winter.

Low Surf Season (May - September)

This is the quietest (and poorest) time of year for surf at Sidi Bouzid. The North Atlantic storm track shifts north, and the dominant trade winds blow from the NNE, creating persistent onshore conditions that ruin wave quality. Average swell heights drop to 1.2-1.4m with short, wobbly periods (8-10 seconds). The beach becomes a sea of bumps on most days. Only the rare eastward-moving cut-off low or tropical cyclone in the eastern Atlantic can salvage a session. June, July, and August are especially grim, with the wind being ideal less than 10% of the time. Summer is best for swimming, not surfing, at this spot.

October: Swell Returns, Winds Follow

October is a dramatic shift upward in surf potential. The average swell height jumps to 1.6m with a period of 11.6s, driven by the first strong autumn storms in the North Atlantic. Directionally, NW and NNW are still the main players (over 81% combined), but there is an uptick in W and WNW contributions, adding more variety. The wind ideal rises to 35% as the Azores High drifts south and cold fronts bring post-frontal offshore flows from the E and SE. The increased frequency of clean conditions, combined with solid groundswell, makes October a month to watch. When the right storm track aligns, Sidi Bouzid can see long-period, powerful waves with offshore glass – the first glimpse of winter quality.
