Best Surf Season (September - November)

The transition from the dry to the wet season brings the most consistent and high-quality surf to T-Land. During these months, the Indian Ocean starts firing up long-period SW groundswells, while the trade winds relax, allowing for light offshore easterly breezes. This combination delivers clean, powerful waves in the 1-2m range with periods often exceeding 13s. The 'dry' side of the monsoon is still in effect, keeping rainfall minimal and winds from the ESE light. This is the window for perfection at T-Land.

Fair Surf Season (March, April, December)

Shoulder months offer a mixed bag. In March, the tail end of the west swell window still provides solid waves, but the wind regime is transitioning, leading to more variable conditions. April sees the trade winds strengthen, offering clean mornings but with swells shifting more southerly, reducing the direct hit on the reef. December marks the onset of the monsoon, bringing west-northwest winds that often ruin the surface, though the swell direction remains ideal. With careful forecast watching, you can score fun, punchy waves in these months.

Low Surf Season (January - February, May - August)

The heart of the monsoon season in January and February delivers ample west swell, but persistent onshore west winds make for lumpy, choppy conditions. Meanwhile, from May through August, the southeast trades become dominant, cranking up strong winds that create a windswell component from the south, which is far from ideal for the west-facing breaks of T-Land. Swell heights may be respectable, but the combination of poor swell direction and strong onshore or cross-offshore winds leads to subpar conditions. This is a time to look elsewhere or wait for a rare lull in the trades.

June: Southern Swell Peak

June marks the peak of the southern swell season for Indonesia. Average wave heights climb to 1.5m with a period of 12.5s, indicating powerful, long-period energy. However, almost all of this swell arrives from the south or southeast, with SE and SSE swells combining for over 42% of the total. These swells are poorly aligned with T-Land's WNW orientation. The wind is overwhelmingly from the E and ESE, blowing over 87% of the time, often at strong speeds that create bumpy conditions. The ideal wind percentage drops to just 18%, meaning that even when the wind direction is good, speeds are often too high. Look for early mornings or days when the trade winds relax.
