Tiger Stripes seasonal overview
Tiger Stripes in the Maldives offers consistent surf year-round, but the best conditions typically occur from January through April. During these months, ground swell dominates (58-78%), ensuring clean, powerful waves with an average size ranging from 1.1m to 1.3m. Wind conditions are also most favorable, with good winds (light offshore or cross-shore) occurring 58-65% of the time in January-February, dropping slightly to 45% by April. From May onwards, swell energy remains solid—mostly ground swell initially, then mixing with wind swell—but wind conditions deteriorate significantly, with bad (onshore) winds rising above 55% from April and peaking at 83-84% in May-August. Swell size increases in mid-year (1.6m-1.9m), but the stronger winds often create choppy, less ideal surf. September-December sees a gradual return of better winds (23-53% good conditions) and slightly smaller swells (1.2m-1.6m), though ground swell percentages dip below 60% by October. For the cleanest, most rideable waves with reliable offshore winds, target January-March. Later months can still produce sizeable surf but are more suited to experienced surfers comfortable with wind-affected conditions. Avoid May-September if seeking glassy waves, as onshore winds dominate.
