The heart of the South African winter roars to life from May through August, delivering the most consistent and high-quality surf at Yzerfontein. This is when the long-period groundswells generated by intense Southern Ocean storms wrap perfectly into the southwest-facing beach. With an average swell height exceeding 2.4m and periods routinely hitting the 12-second mark, these months offer powerful, clean waves. Critically, the climatological shift in the South Atlantic High brings a higher frequency of offshore north to northeast winds, with ideal wind percentages peaking around 40% in June and July.
