Best Surf Season (November - March)

Gas Chambers sits at an awkward west-southwest angle, which means the true magic only comes when swell sneaks into the W/SW window. The months from November through March are the strongest of the year, with average swell heights around 5ft (1.5m) and wave periods holding at 10.0s. North Atlantic low pressure systems become more active, and the resulting NE/NNE/ENE groundswell ramps up. The same pressure gradient that sends the swell also cranks up the ENE trade winds, and since those winds are offshore at Gas Chambers, the surface can quickly turn lumpy. With ideal wind only 38-49% of the time in these months, the dawn and dusk windows are critical. The preferred W/SW/WNW groundswell remains rare, but this is still the most powerful and consistent time of year at the break.
