White Plains Beach faces due south, and the surf truly turns on when the Southern Hemisphere gets busy and the trade wind swell clockworks. During the summer months, south-angled energy becomes abundant - the E, ESE, SE and SSE quadrants supply the vast majority of the surf, with wave heights averaging around 5ft (1.5m) and periods in the 10.7-11.4s range. Water temperatures peak at 26.7-27.0°C, making it warm, fun, and grovel-friendly. The catch is wind: the trades blow hard from the ENE up to 83% of the time, so the 'ideal wind' window drops to only 8-11% - but dawn patrol often delivers clean, glassy peaks before the afternoon bump.
