North Point's best surf windows arrive in the autumn. As the Southern Ocean continues to pump long-period groundswell through the Roaring Forties, the first strong autumn highs begin to settle over the mainland, producing cool offshore easterly and southeasterly winds. April delivers an average swell around 6-7ft (1.8-2.1m) at 12.8 seconds, while May holds size near 7.5ft (2.3m) and the swell direction gains more west in it - a critical ingredient for this west-facing beach. With ideal wind percentages maxing out at 25%, this is the most reliable formula for clean, lined-up surf at North Point.
