Best Surf Season (May - September)

The Southern Hemisphere winter is the clear winning window at Warroora Station. As low-pressure systems and cold fronts ramp up across the Roaring Forties, average surf heights climb to 1.5-1.7m (5-5.6ft) and mean swell periods push into the 13.7-14.1s range. At the same time, the subtropical ridge shifts north and delivers the most reliable E/ESE/SE/SSE offshore flow of the year, especially in May (34% ideal), June (33%) and July (31%). The result is larger, longer-period SSW/SW groundswell grooming into the NW-facing coastline with much cleaner conditions than summer. One thing to keep in mind: the wave rose is heavily weighted toward SSW/SW energy, even though the beach faces NW. A pure west or northwest swell is the absolute gold standard here - it hits the coast more directly and produces the most lined-up waves.
