March: Spring Thaw, Still Tiny

March brings a subtle transition. The average wave height dips to 0.5m (1.6ft) and the period sits at 3.7s, but the swell direction is still predominantly from the W/SW quadrant: WSW at 13.4%, W at 13.0%, SW at 11.9% and SSW at 6.9% combine for a healthy directional alignment with the beach. Unfortunately, the size is marginal - most observations are in the 0-0.5m bin, and only isolated pockets from WSW and W reach 1-1.5m (3.3-4.9ft). The period continues to hover below the 5s threshold, so expect short, wind-driven lines rather than organized swell. The wind situation improves slightly on the offshore side: N, NNE, NE and ENE together make up about 20% of observations, but ideal wind is still 0%, and the dominant WSW/SW flow remains onshore nearly 38% of the time. Air temperatures average 0.6°C with highs occasionally reaching 22.7°C, while precipitation averages 1.67 mm/day. The water is beginning to release its winter grip, but surf quality is still largely a product of luck rather than consistent swell.
