November: Storm Track Season Builds

November delivers the first real taste of winter surf. The average wave height bumps to 0.6m (2ft), the average period to 4.0s, and the southwest swell window is active: SW at 15.4%, WSW at 12.6%, W at 11.4%, SSW at 10.6% and WNW at 7.6% combine to keep the beach exposed to frequent windswell. There is now a slightly more meaningful amount of energy above 1m - especially from SW and WSW - though the periods remain too short to provide the kind of reach and power that 10s+ swell brings. Winds are still predominantly onshore, with SW/WSW/S/SSW around 40%, but the approach of winter lows brings more variability, and ideal wind ticks up to 1%. Air temperatures fall to an average of 5.0°C, precipitation is 2.21 mm/day, and water temps are cooling quickly. November is arguably one of the more realistic months to find a semi-rideable, short-period day if you are willing to battle the cold.
