Best Surf Season (October - March)
The North Atlantic roars to life during the autumn and winter months, with Parlementia sitting squarely in the crosshairs of the most energetic swell corridors. From October through March, the average wave height hovers around 1.3-1.8m (4-6ft), while the average period climbs to a powerful 11-13s. This is the time when strong extratropical cyclones spin up along the Gulf Stream and ride the prevailing westerly jet stream toward the Bay of Biscay, sending long-period W, WNW and NW groundswells directly into this northwest-facing beach. The wind statistics also align beautifully: the percentage of ideal offshore wind days peaks at 36-51%, with December and January offering the most consistent windows of clean, groomed conditions. When the high pressure over the Azores ridges into the Bay and a low pressure system sits just west of Ireland, Parlementia transforms into a punchy, hollow, world-class beach break.
Fair Surf Season (April & September)
As the seasons transition, the Atlantic pendulum swings toward more inconsistent energy. April and September serve as the shoulder months at Parlementia, with average swell heights settling into the 1.1-1.2m (3.5-4ft) range and average periods dipping to 10.6-11.0s. The swell direction remains remarkable consistent from the W/NW quadrant, but the strength and frequency of low-pressure systems drop off noticeably. Ideal offshore wind days fall to 29%, meaning the chance of clean, glassy conditions is more of a gamble. Still, when a late-season hurricane or early-season cold front pushes up from the subtropics, Parlementia can light up with 2m-plus (6ft+) sets and just enough southwest wind to keep the faces clean. These months offer the best trade-off between smaller crowds and the chance of a sneaky good day.
Low Surf Season (May - August)
Summer is the sleepy season for this stretch of the French coast. From May through August, the average swell height bottoms out at 0.9m (3ft), and the average period falls to a marginal 9.0-10.1s. The Atlantic storm track retreats into the far north, leaving Parlementia at the mercy of weak, short-period NW and WNW windswells generated by the persistent summer sea breeze and passing troughs. The dominant swell direction is still overwhelmingly NW (frequently over 50% of the distribution), but the energy is mostly in the small, groveling 0.5-1m (2-3ft) range. To make matters worse, ideal offshore wind days plummet to just 15-23%, with the dominant winds swinging into the W and NW - exactly the onshore directions that wreck wave quality. The water temperature climbs to a pleasant 16.6-22.9°C, making it perfect for a swim on a board, but for real waves, you'll be scanning the horizon for a longshot summer swell that rarely arrives.
