Today's Surf Conditions at Parlementia
Spot Overview & Description
Parlementia is a deepwater reef that demands respect from the moment you paddle out. Anchored far off Guethary’s rocky shoreline, it produces a shifty, right-hand peak that constantly recalibrates your positioning. From the terrace, the wave can look deceptively clean and forgiving — a visual illusion that quickly shatters once you’re sitting in the lineup, feeling the ocean’s true pulse. The main peak is an outside bombora-style reef break: a short, critical shoulder that rewards heavy, extended bottom turns and open carves into the face. When the set ramps up, the top section accelerates with raw power, leaving little room for error. Off that same peak, a left unwinds back across the inner reef — sometimes a steep, walled-up gem, sometimes a fast-running section that threatens to close out entirely. On smaller to moderate days, the shallower inside reef shelf lights up with quicker, more playful rights that offer a bit more margin. This wave suits intermediate to advanced surfers who can read shifting peaks and handle the deepwater heave. Best on a rising mid-to-high tide with clean offshore winds from the southeast or south-southeast — and a healthy dose of local knowledge to make the most of its fickle personality.
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (October - March)
The North Atlantic roars to life during the autumn and winter months, with Parlementia sitting squarely in the crosshairs of the most energetic swell corridors. From October through March, the average wave height hovers around 1.3-1.8m (4-6ft), while the average period climbs to a powerful 11-13s. This is the time when strong extratropical cyclones spin up along the Gulf Stream and ride the prevailing westerly jet stream toward the Bay of Biscay, sending long-period W, WNW and NW groundswells directly into this northwest-facing beach. The wind statistics also align beautifully: the percentage of ideal offshore wind days peaks at 36-51%, with December and January offering the most consistent windows of clean, groomed conditions. When the high pressure over the Azores ridges into the Bay and a low pressure system sits just west of Ireland, Parlementia transforms into a punchy, hollow, world-class beach break.
