Tucked just around the corner from the famed La Torche, Pors Carn is an under-the-radar beachbreak that packs a surprising punch. Its shifting, uneven mix of sand and reef beneath the surface creates both lefts and rights, with a standout right-hand reef section that only fires on the higher tides. The waves here have a knack for turning hollow and wedge-like, which explains the strong bodyboarder presence that often outnumbers the surfers. When conditions align, Pors Carn offers a raw, less-crowded alternative that demands quick reflexes and a taste for steep, bowling walls.

Best Surf Season (November - March)

Porzcarn's west-north-west exposure puts it right in the firing line of the North Atlantic storm track. From November through March, a near-continuous conveyor of WSW, W and WNW swell hits the French coast, with average wave heights holding in the 6-7ft (1.8-2.2m) range and average periods stretching from 10.9 to 12.0s. These are long-period, powerful waves. The catch is that the same frontal systems that generate the swell often drag raw onshore winds through the area; only about 15-19% of the time does the wind turn offshore out of the ENE-SE quadrant. When that alignment happens, Porzcarn can be genuinely world-class.
