Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (October - February)
When the northeast monsoon settles over the Bay of Bengal, Vizag's south-southeast-facing sandbars start to work. Swell energy from the ESE, SE, SSE and S directions continues to push in, but now the prevailing winds shift to the N, WNW, NW and NNW - true offshore flow for this stretch of coast. October and November are the standouts, with average surf in the 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) range, periods around 8.5-9.5s and favourable wind 54-62% of the time. December and January stay clean but a little smaller, while February offers slightly longer period but fewer clean wind windows.
