Best Surf Season (May - October)

The beating heart of the Padang Padang calendar is Indonesia's dry season. From May through October, the monsoon shifts to the southeast, and offshore trade winds blow across the Bukit Peninsula with remarkable consistency. Long-period groundswell from the Southern Ocean is fed continuously into the deep southwest Indian Ocean, producing a conveyor belt of SSW/SW swell. The numbers back it up: average wave periods reach 13.8-14.4s and average heights run 6-7ft (1.8-2.2m), with a huge chunk of the wave distribution sitting in the firing 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) range. Trade winds blow from the ESE/SE quadrant for much of the dry season, and the percentage of ideal offshore wind peaks at a phenomenal 87% in October. This is when Padang Padang's shallow reef comes alive and the lefts turn the world on its head.
