Bingin lies on the Bukit Peninsula with a northwest-facing reef that lines up best when the swell combines with clean, offshore wind. The raw data tells us the Indian Ocean has a strong bias toward SSW and SW swell, and even though the spot's textbook ideal direction is N to NW, the long-period south energy finds its way around the headland. The magic occurs when the monsoon winds are in retreat, and from September through November the ideal wind windows peak at 76-88%. With average swells running 5.9ft (1.8m) to 6.6ft (2.0m) and periods of 13.2 to 14.3 seconds, the reef produces its most rhythmic, hollow waves. October is the standout, with an 88% ideal wind rate and an 83.1% concentration of SSW swell.
