Today's Surf Conditions at La Roccetta
Spot Overview & Description
Just 200 meters south of Santa Marinella’s harbor, La Roccetta offers a quiet escape from the packed summer beaches. Getting here is simple: turn left at the gas station just before the bridge from town, and you’ll find an uncrowded lineup that rewards those who seek it out. The wave peels over a shallow rock ledge, breaking as a clean A-frame peak. The right-hand ride is longer but mellower, while the left is quicker and more intense, occasionally offering up barrel sections when conditions align. This spot shines with small, windless swells from the southeast, southwest, or west, handling waves around 2 feet (0.6 meters) with ease. A light northeast wind creates the cleanest faces, and the tide is forgiving—low, mid, or high all work, though timing still matters for the best shape. This is advanced territory. The reef bottom and shallow ledge demand solid experience, quick reflexes, and respect for the rock. With multiple swell angles feeding a versatile A-frame, La Roccetta serves up both lefts and rights, but it’s the hollow left that draws the real rippers. Come prepared for the reef, and you’ll be rewarded with quality, uncrowded waves in a relaxed Mediterranean setting.
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (November - February)
Winter is the time to make it happen at La Roccetta. From November through February, average wave heights climb to around 3ft (0.9-1m) and the average period stretches to 5.0-5.2s, which is the most energetic combination the south-facing beach sees all year. The Mediterranean storm track becomes more active, and the swell window from SSE, S, SSW and SW receives the most consistent pulses. Offshore winds from N, NNE, NE and NNW are also at their most frequent, delivering clean, groomed windows between frontal passages. This is not long-period open-ocean groundswell; instead, expect punchy, rideable Mediterranean windswell that can become genuinely fun when a good south-southwest swell aligns with a N/NE offshore wind.
