Best Surf Season (December - February)
Winter is the standout window at Marinaretti. Average swell heights peak around 3ft (0.9-1.0m), average periods climb into the 5.6-5.8s range, and the 'ideal wind' score reaches 28-31%, the best of the year. This is when Bora outbreaks from the N/NE and cold fronts crossing the Mediterranean combine to produce a surprisingly consistent mix of short-period S/SW swell and clean offshore wind. It will never rival an open-ocean point break, but on this south-facing Italian beach, winter is by far the most reliable time to find rideable, punchy surf.
Fair Surf Season (October - November & March - April)
The shoulder months offer a blend of building or fading winter energy. October and November see the return of Mediterranean low pressure and a clear jump in S/SSW/SW swell; November especially delivers the highest percentage of waves above 3ft (1m) from the best directions. March and April still have winter leftovers, but the sea breeze season begins to eat into the afternoons. Early mornings with offshore N/NW winds become the key to scoring.
Low Surf Season (May - September)
Summer is the long flat season. Average heights drop to 1-2ft (0.5-0.6m), periods fall below 5s, and thermal sea breezes from the S/SW ruin the already marginal surface. The Mediterranean high pressure ridge keeps storm tracks to the north, so Marinaretti is mostly small, weak and wind-affected. Late May and September offer the only realistic glimmers of surf, and even then a longboard or foamie is usually the right tool.
