Today's Surf Conditions at Moneglia
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (October - March)
Moneglia is a Ligurian micro-spot with a SSW-facing beach, so it takes direct energy from the S, SSW and SW swell window. The winter half of the year is the only time the Mediterranean really works in your favor. Between October and March, average wave heights climb to 0.7-0.9m (2-3ft), periods extend to 5.2-5.9s, and ideal offshore wind windows from N, NNO, NO and NNW occur 17-23% of the time. These are still short-period seas by open-ocean standards, but the combination of Genoa low-pressure systems, cold front passages and local Tramontana winds can produce punchy, clean, rippable waves on the sandbars. When the NAO turns negative and the jet stream digs into the western Mediterranean, storm after storm rolls into the Ligurian Sea and Moneglia jumps to life.
