Best Surf Season (December - March)

The North Pacific roars to life during winter, and Ibaraki is right in the firing line. As the Siberian High builds over the continent and the Aleutian Low deepens offshore, the pressure gradient funnels a steady northwesterly monsoon across Japan. That synoptic setup does two things: it sends consistent NE through E groundswell into this east-northeast-facing beach, and it sets up long stretches of clean, offshore wind from the SW, WSW, W and WNW. December through March is the heart of the year, with average surf in the 1.6-1.8m (5.2-5.9ft) range and periods pushing 10 seconds. Every passing cold front can add a fresh pulse of power, making the winter months the most reliable time to score proper waves.
