Malik's

Malik's on Hirilandhoo is a reef break that delivers a fast, left-hander capable of spitting out some serious barrels when conditions align. Inconsistent by nature, it fires best when a south to southwest swell pushes through, with wave face heights starting around three feet. The takeoff demands commitment, and the section speed will test even seasoned surfers looking for a high-performance challenge. An easterly wind cleans up the line, and the wave is willing to cooperate at low, mid, and high tides, though the shifting reef requires constant readjustment. This is not a spot for the faint of heart—Malik's rewards the prepared expert willing to adapt to its moody, powerful character.

Best Surf Season (February - March)

The northeast monsoon delivers its most balanced combination of offshore winds and open-ocean swell at Malik's between February and March. Offshore flow from NE/ENE/E is present around half the time, peaking in February at 56 percent, while the swell window begins to rotate toward the south and southwest. By March, the average period jumps to 11.3s, meaning the S/SSW/SW swell arriving at the reef is powerful, organized and groomed by offshore winds. This is the sweet spot for clean, rippable surf in the 3-5ft (0.9-1.5m) range.
