Two Ways seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (December - March)
The northeast monsoon is in full swing during these months, setting up the most consistent stretch of clean, rideable surf at Two Ways. High pressure building over the Asian continent pushes dry, offshore flow across the Maldives, and at this south-southeast facing reef the north-northwest through north-northeast wind corridor keeps the surface glassy. Ideal wind percentages peak at 56-63%, while the swell window remains dominated by ESE through SSE energy in the fun-sized 1-1.5m (3-5ft) range with a punchy 9.4-10.6s period. This is the time to score long, rippable walls with tropical water temperatures and the least rainfall of the year.
Fair Surf Season (April and November)
April and November sit in the transition between monsoons, and both can offer excellent waves if you are willing to pick your moments. April sees a jump in power as periods reach 10.9s and more SSE/S swell fills in, but the wind percentage drops to 48% as westerly and southwesterly flow invades. November is the mirror image: the northeast monsoon is rebuilding, ideal wind jumps back to 42%, yet the swell mix is more south/southwest and slightly less consistent. The best days in these months come when an NW or WNW offshore breeze coincides with the leftover S/SSE swell pulses.
Low Surf Season (May - October)
The southwest monsoon dominates the heart of the year, and at Two Ways that means the ocean is alive but messy. From May through October the ideal wind percentage plummets to 24-31%, with WSW, W and SW winds blowing directly across the bay and eventually onshore. Swell heights actually increase to 1.5-1.8m (5-6ft) with period in the 10.5-10.9s range, and the SSE/S direction is extremely consistent, but the wind texture spoils the reef. July and August are the biggest and most blown-out; May and October are the most likely months to catch a workable morning before the winds freshen. For the traveling surfer this is the low season for quality, not size.
