Best Surf Season & Climatology

Best Surf Season (April - May and October - November)

Daugo Island's surf calendar is driven by the equatorial monsoon and the South Pacific trade-wind belt, not by distant North Atlantic storm tracks. The best window for scoring groomed waves comes during the transition months, especially April, May, October and November. At this time of year the southeast trades are either settling in or easing off, and the wind surface is dominated by offshore E, ESE, SE and SSE flow. Average waves run 3-5ft (1-1.5m) with periods around 7-8s, so the surf is punchy and rippable even if the dominant SSE swell direction is not the ideal WNW/W/NW angle for this island. When the monsoon briefly pushes a proper W/WNW swell into the mix, the quality jumps quickly.
