January: Monsoon Slop in the Wet Season

January is the heart of the northwest monsoon, and Daugo feels it. Nearly 60 percent of the wind comes from the onshore W/WNW/NW/NNW quadrant, with NW at 27.1 percent and NNW at 20.2 percent leading the charge. Offshore E, ESE, SE and SSE winds are scarce, so the ideal-wind ratio sits at just 15 percent. The average wave is a small 2-3ft (0.7m) with a short-period 7.2s, meaning most SSE/SE energy is lumpy and low-quality. Some W/WNW swell does show up, adding up to roughly 25 percent of the directions and producing waist-to-shoulder-high waves in the 0.5-1.5m range, but it is almost always accompanied by onshore wind.

Wet-season heat and humidity are in full force: about 7mm of rain per day, air temperatures near 28.1C and a balmy water temperature of 29.6C. Look for a retreating monsoon trough and a brief E/SE flow to turn Daugo on, but January is generally a month of groveling, not glory.
