La Isla seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (January - March)
The austral summer provides the most reliable windows for quality surf at La Isla. Average swell height sits in the 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) range, periods hold around 13-13.5s, and the southwest-facing beach is right in the firing line of consistent SSW/SW groundswell. True offshore flow from N, NNO, NO and ONO is never abundant here, but this is the only stretch of the year where it shows up with any regularity, peaking at 7% in March. This is the time to watch for groomed, long-period peaks.
Fair Surf Season (April - May)
As the South Pacific storm track becomes more active, average swell size climbs to 1.7-1.8m (5.5-6ft) and periods stay near 13.5s. The trade-off is that ideal offshore wind drops to just 2-3% of the time. Expect plenty of solid SSW and S groundswell in the 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) range, but with more bumpy, wind-affected surface. Early mornings and the edges of wind events are the best bet for finding the cleanest corners.
Low Surf Season (June - December)
This is the longest and most challenging stretch for surf quality at La Isla. The South Pacific High strengthens and drives a relentless S/SSW/SW onshore flow, while true offshore winds effectively disappear (0-1% of the time). The wave heights remain solid at 1.5-1.9m (5-6ft) and periods stay around 13s, but the surface is often chopped up and hard to read. June and July deliver the biggest winter swell, while October through December slowly transition back toward smaller, more manageable surf - still, without offshore wind, the true full potential of La Isla remains locked away.
