October: A Roar Returns from the North

October is when the northeast monsoon re-establishes itself with conviction, and Badoc Island Lefts responds immediately. The average swell height jumps to 1.7m, the average period lengthens to 7.9s, and the wave rose snaps back to the northern quadrant. NNE leads with 46% of the energy, NE adds 20%, N 5% and NNW 4%, so around 75% of all waves are now aimed at the left. The size distribution is increasingly serious: NNE alone delivers 13% at 1-1.5m, 13% at 1.5-2m and 10% at 2-2.5m. Expect long days of head-high-to-overhead power, with bigger waves during monsoon surges.

The catch is wind. The monsoon that brings all that swell is also blowing from the wrong direction: NE winds dominate at 32%, ENE at 18% and NNE at 14%, while ideal offshore winds occur only 15% of the time. Water temp is still warm at 28.7°C, air temp averages 25.9°C and rain is back to a more manageable 6.36mm/day. October is the start of the hunt: find the day when the trades ease, the wind swings south, and the left is clean firing.
