Darigayos

Tucked away in a scenic pocket of the Philippine coast, Darigayos is a reef-break sleeper that punches above its weight. The sprawling fringing reef here is uniquely positioned to catch both southwest and northeast swells, meaning that when Darigayos goes flat, the rest of the region likely does, too. This dual exposure gives it a rare consistency and a laid-back, off-the-beaten-path vibe—perfect for surfers seeking something a little different. The wave breaks over a bed of dead coral, delivering crisp, predominantly right-handers that start peeling from around 2 feet (0.6 meters). While the spot picks up a wide swell window, it truly shines when north swell direction fills in. The best conditions roll in with a southeast wind, and the wave holds up well across low, mid, and high tides, giving you flexibility to pick your moment. This is solidly intermediate territory—a good challenge if you’re sharpening your skills, but not a place for beginners looking for forgiving walls. One pro tip: the view from the beach can be deceiving. Best Surf Season (October - March)

Darigayos faces west-northwest into the South China Sea, and its most consistent rideable windows arrive as the northeast monsoon becomes established between October and March. The monsoon drives a broad northerly fetch that sends a mix of N, NNE and NNW swell toward the coast, with the largest energy arriving from November through January. Average swell heights climb from around 4.3ft (1.3m) in October to a peak of 5.2ft (1.6m) in December, while average periods hover in the 7.9-8.2s range - enough punch to put real shape on the break. During this half of the year, offshore flow from the ENE/E/ESE/SE quadrant becomes more common, giving the surface that clean, groomed texture. It is not a perfect window: the swell direction sits a little north of the optimal WSW-WNW corridor, and the N/NNE winds can be cross-shore. But when high pressure over mainland Asia sets up, the offshore breeze pulls the winter swell into line and Darigayos comes alive.
