Best Surf Season (August - September)

The southwest monsoon reaches its peak in August and September, and at Lucky Point that means the highest percentage of clean, offshore wind of the year. The surf is not XL, but the combination of an ENE-facing beach, warm tropical water, and consistent NE/ENE/E/ESE swell in the 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) range makes for the most reliable, groomed waves. Average periods of 8.8-9.3 seconds keep the energy punchy, while any passing typhoon in the Philippine Sea can add a longer-period, more powerful pulse.

Fair Surf Season (May - July and October)

May through July marks the transition from the northeast monsoon to the southwest monsoon. Wave heights drop into the 3ft (0.9-1m) range, but offshore wind increases from 15% to 37%, offering the first real clean windows of the year. October is the reverse: the northeast monsoon is reawakening, surf jumps to 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) and periods stretch to 9.6 seconds, but ideal wind drops to 20%. It is the best balance between late-season swell and pre-winter wind.

Low Surf Season (November - April)

The winter northeast monsoon locks in from November through April, and although it brings the biggest swells of the year -- often 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) with 9-second periods -- it also drives relentless NE/ENE winds straight onshore at Lucky Point. The ideal offshore wind is only 1-4% during these months, so most of the size arrives bumpy and blown-out. This is a low-quality surf season; the rare days when the wind swings to the SW/W are the ones that make it worth watching the forecast.
