Best Surf Season (September - November)

The transition months of September through November offer the most balanced surf conditions at Poro Point. As the Southwest Monsoon weakens and the Northeast Monsoon begins to build, we see a notable increase in offshore wind potential from the N, NNE, and NE quadrants. Meanwhile, lingering SW, WSW, and W swell from the tail end of the typhoon season can still reach the coast, delivering rideable wave heights in the 0.8-1.2m range with average periods of 7-8 seconds. This window provides the best compromise between favorable wind and optimal swell direction, though consistency can be variable.

Fair Surf Season (December - April)

During these months, the Northeast Monsoon is fully established, bringing persistent offshore winds from the N, NNE, and NE that blow clean across the lineup. Wave heights climb steadily from December through February, averaging 1.1-1.3m with periods around 8 seconds. However, the dominant swell direction shifts almost entirely to the north (N, NNW, NNE), which is not ideal for this SW-facing break. While long-period north swells can sometimes wrap in or produce fun lines, the overall quality is compromised. Still, when a rare SW or W swell sneaks in, the combination of offshore wind and punchy waves can be excellent.

Low Surf Season (May - August)

The Southwest Monsoon dominates from May through August, with onshore winds from the SSE, S, and SSW spoiling the surface texture. On the positive side, the swell direction is optimal—waves come from the SSW, SW, WSW, and W, with average heights of 0.5-0.9m and periods of 5.7-7.2s. Unfortunately, the strong onshore flow creates choppy, lumpy conditions that degrade wave quality significantly. Only during brief interludes of lighter winds or when tropical systems pass at a distance does Poro Point come alive. This is the most challenging time of year for surfers seeking clean, well-shaped waves.
