Best Surf Season & Climatology

Best Surf Season (November – February)

The northeast monsoon strengthens across the region, driving consistent NNW swell into the West-facing shores of Mona Lisa Point. Average wave heights hover around 0.7–0.8m with periods climbing into the 7.5–8.1s range, offering punchy, rideable waves. Offshore wind windows from the NW, WNW, W, and WSW become more frequent, peaking at 35% in December. While the dominant swell direction is not optimal, the combination of moderate size and occasional clean wind lines provides the most reliable surf of the year.

Fair Surf Season (October & March)

These transitional months see a mix of conditions. October retains some winter swell energy (0.7m average, 7.7s) with 24% ideal wind, while March marks the tapering off of the monsoon with average swell dropping to 0.5m and period to 6.4s. Swell direction remains heavily biased toward NNW, but wind consistency from the optimal quadrants declines. Surf can still be fun on the better days, but expect smaller windows of quality.

Low Surf Season (April – September)

The southwest monsoon dominates from spring through autumn, ushering in onshore winds from the SW–W quadrants that spoil wave quality. Average swell heights sink to 0.3–0.6m with short, choppy periods of 5.5–7.2s. Ideal offshore wind drops to a meager 4–10% of the time. While some background SSW–WSW swell appears, it arrives with poor winds and lacks the power needed for clean surf. The rare opportunity arises when a tropical storm or passing low aligns, but consistent surf is hard to find.
