Best Surf Season (October - March)

Cabo do Mundo is a different beast once the calendar turns to October. The North Atlantic storm machine switches on, and the west-facing beach of Portugal starts lighting up with strong W, WNW, NW and NNW groundswell. Average wave heights push past 6-7ft (1.8-2.1m) in October and peak around 8-9ft (2.5-2.7m) from December through February. Swell periods hold in the powerful 11-13s range, and the high pressure that often parks over Iberia delivers offshore NE, ENE, E, ESE and SE winds on 39-49% of days. These are the months when long-period North Atlantic energy meets clean offshore flow, producing the kind of hollow, lined-up waves that make this stretch of Portuguese coastline so famous. Water temperatures are cool, air temps are crisp, and rain is common, but the surf quality is unmatched.
