Best Surf Season (May - July)

The heart of the Southern Hemisphere winter delivers the most consistent and powerful surf of the year at Anne Avenue. Average open-ocean wave heights peak at 10ft (3.1m) and periods stretch to 12.4-12.5s, as strong mid-latitude cyclones rolling through the South Atlantic send long-period S/SSW/SW groundswell up the coastline. Crucially, the wind regime flips in your favor during this stretch: offshore W/WSW/WNW/NW flow accounts for more than 50% of the surface wind, while the onshore ENE/E/ESE/SE complex collapses to just 13-15%. That combination means the beach cleans up dramatically and the long-period energy wraps well into the ESE-facing shoreline. It is the closest thing Anne Avenue has to a reliable, high-quality surf season.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & August - October)

The shoulder seasons at Anne Avenue are a tug-of-war between winter's long-period groundswell and the return of summer's easterly surface flow. March and April show the transition beginning: average swell size climbs to 8-9ft (2.5-2.7m), periods build to 11.4-11.8s, and ideal wind improves to 25-28%. August through October still holds plenty of oceanic power - September averages 10ft (3.0m) - but wind consistency begins to fray, and the ideal-wind percentage drops into the low 20s by October. These months reward flexibility and a close eye on cold-front passages: score the offshore W/WNW windows behind the low pressure and you can find excellent, glassy Anne Avenue.

Low Surf Season (November - February)

Summer is the frustrating season at Anne Avenue. Swell heights dip to 8ft (2.4-2.5m), periods shorten to 10.9-11.1s, and the prevailing E/ESE trade wind strengthens and blows directly onshore, with bad wind directions occupying roughly 40-46% of the compass rose. The swell direction does trend more toward the E/ESE/SE window - the angles Anne Avenue is most exposed to - but because the same winds generate and chop up the sea, those waves are often windblown and lumpy. The water warms to 19-20°C and warm continental air can push temperatures into the mid-30s, but the surf quality pays the price. There are still occasional post-frontal clean windows, but they are short-lived.
