The heart of the Southern Hemisphere winter delivers the most consistent and powerful surf of the year at Anne Avenue. Average open-ocean wave heights peak at 10ft (3.1m) and periods stretch to 12.4-12.5s, as strong mid-latitude cyclones rolling through the South Atlantic send long-period S/SSW/SW groundswell up the coastline. Crucially, the wind regime flips in your favor during this stretch: offshore W/WSW/WNW/NW flow accounts for more than 50% of the surface wind, while the onshore ENE/E/ESE/SE complex collapses to just 13-15%. That combination means the beach cleans up dramatically and the long-period energy wraps well into the ESE-facing shoreline. It is the closest thing Anne Avenue has to a reliable, high-quality surf season.
