Best Surf Season (May - August)
The deep winter months deliver the goods at Clubhouse in terms of raw swell size and period. The Southern Ocean storm machine fires with increasing consistency through this window, pushing the average swell height to 2.2-2.4m (7-8ft) while average periods climb to 12.2-12.5s. Crucially, the offshore wind window - SSW through WSW - becomes more prominent as cold fronts tracking east of the Cape swing the flow to the west. If you can pick off those clean, W/SW offshore days between frontal boundaries, this is when Clubhouse has the most power and shape. The main caveat is direction: the bulk of the energy arrives from the S/SSW/SW sector, which is not the ideal NNE-NE-ENE-E window, so a good portion of this is wrapped or refracted swell. Still, when it lines up, the setup is firing.
Fair Surf Season (March - April & September - November)
The shoulder months hang in the balance between winter power and summer easterlies. Swell sizes remain respectable, averaging 2.1-2.3m (6.9-7.5ft), and periods hold in the 10.8-11.7s range. The wind is a lottery: in April and September the offshore W/SW flow percentages are still strong, but October sees the dreaded E/ENE trades clock in near 30% of the time, dropping the ideal-wind percentage to just 19%. Surfable days are there for the patient surfer, especially at the start and end of this shoulder block, but you are picking through junk to find the gems.
Low Surf Season (December - February)
Austral summer at Clubhouse means the Southern Ocean swell machine goes quiet. Average wave heights dip to 1.9-2.0m (6.2-6.6ft) and periods shrink to 10.7-11.0s, taking energy out of the water. On top of that, the sea breeze regime strengthens: E/ENE flow, which is onshore for this ENE-facing beach, dominates close to 40% of the time. The result is smaller, wind-affected surf and a much lower strike rate of clean, lined-up waves. It is not completely flat - residual SSW groundswell still shows up - but the spot needs the right alignment to shine.
