August: Late Winter Still Firing, Trades Returning

August holds onto much of winter's power, with average swell height still at 2.1m and period easing only slightly to 11.7s. SSW at 25.7 per cent and S at 15.8 per cent continue to lead the swell direction, but the E/ESE/SE/SSE window climbs back to 29.4 per cent, offering a more user-friendly mix for Nahoon's peak. Size remains solid: S and SSW combined show big clusters in the 1.5-2m and 2-2.5m bins, giving plenty of head-high-plus surf. Ideal wind drops to 35 per cent - still respectable - but the trades begin to reassert themselves, as NE returns to 14.3 per cent and ENE to 7.9 per cent. The W, WNW, NW and NNW block is still present, however, and WSW at 16.3 per cent and SW at 11.4 per cent mean there are still plenty of cross-offshore days.

Air temperatures hold around 17.8°C, water is at its coolest point of the year at 19.0°C, and rain remains light at 1.70mm/day. Late August often delivers the last sustained pulse of winter before spring transitions start to mix in.
