Best Surf Season (June - September)

The southwest monsoon takes full control during these months, firing consistent, long-period swell from the SW to W quadrants directly into the island's eastern reefs. With the dominant wind flow shifting to a steady W to WSW offshore breeze, surface conditions turn glassy and clean. Average wave heights hold a solid 1.3m with periods frequently reaching the 6-9s range, delivering punchy, rippable walls. This is the peak window for quality surf at Bedhuge.

Fair Surf Season (April - May & October - November)

During the transitional months, the Indian Ocean juggles between monsoonal regimes. April and May see the northeast monsoon retreat, with winds veering westerly and swell picking up from the SSE to SW – still favorable but less consistent. October and November mimic the opposite transition: the southwest monsoon weakens, and while decent SW-W swell can still sneak in, the window of clean offshore wind shrinks. Expect a mix of fun days interspersed with lulls.

Low Surf Season (December - March)

The northeast monsoon dominates the winter months, driving persistent ENE to E winds that blow directly onshore at Bedhuge. Swell is predominantly from ENE to ESE – directions that wrap poorly onto the east-facing breaks and generate short, choppy waves. Average heights hover around 1.0m with periods under 7s, making for mostly small, messy conditions. Only the occasional pulse of longer-period westerly swell can salvage a session, but such windows are brief and rare.

March: Transitional Glimmers of Hope

March marks the tail end of the northeast monsoon, but onshore winds still dominate, especially from N to ENE. However, there's a notable shift: offshore winds from WSW to NW pick up to 37%, offering more clean windows. Swell rotates southward, with SE (25.9%) and SSE (21.7%) becoming prominent. These southerly swells wrap onto Bedhuge's reefs with decent shape, averaging 0.9m at 6.7s – fun-sized but lacking power. The best days come when a westerly pulse aligns with those offshore winds.
