September, on the other hand, brings the largest average swell of the year at 1.8m, fueled by early-spring storms in the South Pacific and Southern Ocean. However, the wind becomes more unpredictable with only 21% offshore, meaning you'll need to time the frontal passages carefully. Both months offer great potential, but consistency takes a backseat to the core winter months.

Expect long, clean walls and rippable waves in the fun 1-1.5m range, with plenty of overhead sets on the best days. The consistency is excellent — if you have a flexible schedule, you'll score near-perfect conditions more often than not.
