Summer and early autumn deliver a drop in both average wave height and period. April-level averages of 2.4-2.6m mask a heavier reliance on inconsistent S-SW pulses, while the dominant wind regime shifts to easterly and ENE trade winds that blow directly onshore. This creates bumpy, wind-affected surf, especially during the afternoon sea-breeze cycle. The percentage of ideal wind days falls to around 25-30%, and even when the swell is solid, the quality can be compromised. Still, early morning sessions with a light offshore (S to WSW) and a long-period residual can turn the summer slop into glassy, rippable waves – just don't expect the dependable power of winter.

March: Autumn Transition Begins

March signals the start of autumn, and the averages reflect a holding pattern: 2.5m swell at 11.4s. The dominant SSW (18.3%) and SW (10.8%) swells gain a fraction more period, hinting at the winter buildup to come. Wave heights remain solid, with the 1.5-2.5m bands accounting for the lion's share. Wind patterns show a subtle shift: ENE (14.7%) and E (17.6%) still dominate, but WSW (15.7%) and W (16.6%) become more frequent. This tug-of-war means ideal wind days hold at 30%, but the offshore windows occasionally stretch longer. The swell quality is often good, but the easterly sea breeze stiffens by midday, so dawn patrol remains the wise choice.
