Best Surf Season (November - February)

The heart of the surf season at Conchalio pulses strongest from November through February. During these months, the North Pacific high-pressure system strengthens, channeling consistent offshore winds from the NNE and NE quadrant. The trade winds relax just enough to allow long-period south swells to work their magic, with average wave periods hovering around 12-13 seconds. Swell heights average a solid 1.0-1.2m, producing clean, fun-sized waves that peel down the line. The combination of 70%+ favourable wind and reliable swell makes this the go-to window for intermediate to advanced surfers.

Fair Surf Season (March, July, August, October)

March sees the tail end of the dry season, with offshore winds still frequent but swell heights starting to climb. July and August bring a surprising spike in offshore wind consistency – often above 55% – and wave heights push into the 1.3-1.4m range. The swell period remains punchy, averaging 13-14 seconds. October marks the transition back to cleaner conditions as the Intertropical Convergence Zone shifts south. These months offer good sessions, though you may need to pick your days more carefully when the wind momentarily swings onshore.

Low Surf Season (April - July, September)

From April through June, and again in September, the wind becomes the limiting factor. The percentage of ideal offshore wind drops below 50% in April and May, giving way to frequent onshore breezes from the S and SSW that chop up the wave face. However, the swell doesn't disappear – in fact, wave heights peak at 1.4m in May and June, and periods reach the 14-second mark. When the wind does come offshore, these months can produce epic, long-period groundswells. It's a low-confidence season, but the rewards for waiting out the right window are substantial.

June: High Energy, Mixed Winds

June holds onto the strong swell regime with an average height of 1.4m and a period of 13.8 seconds. The SSW swell remains dominant (78.1%), and the wind ideal percentage recovers slightly to 53%. While onshore winds from the S and SW still occur, the mornings often feature lighter winds from the NNE and NE. This creates a workable window, especially early. Wave heights are predominantly in the 1-1.5m range, with a notable 21% of waves in the 1.5-2m zone. It's a month of potential, but you'll need to dodge the afternoon sea breeze.
